Esquire meets Captain Hook in a series of duo concerts: modern classical meets groovejazz. It features arranged own material, as well as brand new compositions written especially for this project. Composers are Corrie van Binsbergen, Mark Haanstra en Daan Herweg amongst others. The Captain, eager to go out and explore new worlds, has found a great and inspiring co-pilot named Esquire! Don't miss it!

The Esquire saxophonequartet and the jazzgroup Captain Hook will give a duo-concert in which both groups will play together each other’s music: modern classical meets groovejazz, Esquire meets Captain Hook. An inspiring investigation of each other’s music and repertoire has led to a programme that could best be characterized as ‘best of both worlds’. The enthousiasm of all musicians about the cooperation has given birth to 2 brand new compositions, especially written for this setting and this orchestration.

Esquire and Captain Hook are familiar with each other due to their strong participation in the music scène in Utrecht.

Esquire has been known for their enthousiasm to participate in projects that cross borders in an artistic way. The quartet has been working with dance- and theatre groups and initiated ‘Just Act’, a programme in which participation of civilians in society was a key item.

It has not been until now that Captain Hook thought of joining a project like this. Their first cd ‘Hooked Up’ (2005) brought the group wider recognition in the Dutch jazz scène and let to many gigs at jazz venues and festivals throughout the country - for example the semi finals of the Dutch Jazz Competition 2006!

We hope to see you at this concert!

Excuse my Dutch:

Saxophonequartet Esquire 2008
